Baytown voters will vote May 13 on seven proposed amendments to the city charter. Pat Nelson, a health and physical education teacher at Travis Elementary and two time cancer survivor, will be honored at a roast and toast this Saturday celebrating life love and laughter. Proceeds support Nelson's medical bills as family and Unity Missionary Baptist Church members organize the fundraiser after Nelson began seeing a new doctor.
Tickets for a roast fundraiser are 25 dollars with contact numbers for Sandra Harris and Jackie White. Nelson, diagnosed with breast cancer in October 2001, faced an inoperable brain tumor found last November after years in remission. The event includes dinner, a silent auction, and speakers honoring Nelson's battle and resilience.
Organizers of the second annual Long Neck Festival plan a single location event at Goose Creek Stream Park this weekend. No alcohol will be served to keep crowds calm, while exhibits from Eddie V. Gray Wetlands Center, a carnival, live entertainment, a petting zoo, and kids fish tanks aim to educate and entertain families.
A tornado touched down Saturday morning near Cedar Bayou damaging one home and trees on a three acre property. Brad and Amanda Moore reported their eight thousand pound horse trailer was flipped and totaled after strong winds lifted it across the yard. The couple had bought the trailer in March after evacuting during Hurricane Rita.
