Floyd Hous ton McClurg 67 retired Baytown Refinery foreman died Thursday in a local hospital. Funeral services will be held Friday at 4 p.m. at Paul AL Lee Funeral Home in Baytown with Rev. William J. Hodge officiating. Survived by widow Parlee Elizabeth and two daughters, plus four sisters and two brothers, and two grandchildren. McClurg was a Pittsburg Texas native who lived in Baytown since 1958.

Grand Jury to hear Baytown slaying case
Justice proceeding follows Baytown officer Lt James Taylor fatally shooting Jennings after responding to an ambulance call at the Staner home. Jennings, 38, Highlands resident, allegedly threatened the Staner family with a knife and was shot after advancing on the officer. The Harris County Grand Jury will review evidence and determine whether charges are warranted. Funeral services for Billy Joe Jenings are set for Friday afternoon in Highlands with burial at San Tacvito Memorial Park. A time capsule from The Baytown Sun and other materials was sealed Wednesday in the foundation of Houston Intercontinental Airport’s new air route traffic control center. The capsule, opened in 2006, includes proclamations and letters from Harris County mayors and military officials. The center, near Green Road, will cover 200,000 square miles, cost over $6 million, and employ more than 300 people when operational in 1985, taking over certain San Antonio and New Orleans air traffic responsibilities.

Funeral services were held at Paul A. Lee Chapel for Robert Baber Hemphill, 71, Baytown resident since 1937. A retired automobile dealer, he died at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday in a Baytown hospital. Burial was in Forest Park Cemetery Houston. He was a World War I Army veteran and headed the Brazos Valley Automobile Agency before starting his Baytown agency in 1937. He was a member of Arabian Temple Houston and Park Avenue Masonic Lodge Memphis.

Jaycees Launch Gum Machine Project in Baytown
Baytown Junior Chamber of Commerce plans to place 150 gum machines in local businesses over the next weeks to raise funds for a park project. Chairman Ken Schoenfeld said money will pay for fencing and camp rent for a park donated by the Texas Highway Department near Alexander Drive and Highway 116.
