Stocks rise on upbeat earnings as Fed rate worries ease
Wall Street surged led by Caterpillar and United Parcel Service with the Dow up 143.93 to 10,461.20, and Nasdaq 1.9 percent higher after Greenspan testimony. Analysts say rate hikes are unlikely to derail growth, shifting focus to earnings and defensive sectors like health care.

Gas surge lifts oil to record levels in New York
Gasoline futures reached a record 1.1920 a gallon in New York amid fears of tight inventories and refinery constraints during the peak U.S. summer driving season. May gasoline settled 1.1820, while June crude closed at 36.71 after touching 37.15, with traders blaming refinery issues and a pipeline sabotage blamed on saboteurs from Iraq.
