Wilburn Escapes Hurt In Car Crash
Leslie Wilburn a Baytown farmer and businessman narrowly escaped serious injury when his pickup was rear ended by a dump truck and crashed into a concrete culvert at Davis Road and Highway 146. Harold Barnett 16, the dump truck driver, faced a ticket for defective brakes and following too closely. Investigating officers included Sgt H H Steele and Patrolmen W Colwan and Calvin Istre.

Assistant Police Chief Herbert Freeman returned a borrowed car to its owner Monday night, hours after it was reported stolen. A juvenile driver on Lynchburg near Airhart Drive said he was returning the car to the Minnesota bowling alley where he had borrowed it. Baytown trustees approved a motion of intent to hire architect Lowell Lammers to plan a new 24 classroom elementary school in the northeast district. Preliminary plans call for 24 classrooms, a cafeteria and an auditorium at a cost around 475000. The project would relieve Cedar Bayou Junior High crowding and allow more Cedar Bayou area students to attend local junior high.
