Bay town held a Sunday free measles clinic at Baytown Junior School part of Harris County efforts. A total of 3,264 children received the vaccine here, the highest among 25 clinics, prompting a 45 minute interruption for more supply. Across Harris County about 63,000 children were vaccinated.
Baytown Optimists and Baytown Police Association run a bike safety program this week with free tickets to Houston wrestling matches. Check stations run Tue Thu Sat at multiple sites. first 35 bikes daily win two tickets. Stations Tue 2:30 5 p.m. Lamar Bowie. Thu Kentucky Street Park and Bayway Drive Station. Sat 1 3 p.m. four sites. 150 tickets total. Tue Thu tickets apply to Friday Houston matches. Saturday tickets apply to April 23 matches.
Gov Daniel and former Attorneys General headline San Jacinto Day at the Battleground on April 21 for the dedication of a Texas Historical Marker honoring David Thames first Attorney General of Texas. The event includes speeches by Price Daniel Crawford Martin and Wag goner Carr, a 21 gun salute, and a full day of festivities with bands guards and a Navy review.
Gerald Wayne Evans, 30, fell from a secured barge near Trinity Bay Road in Trinity Bay, Chambers County. Sheriff Louis Otter said the body was recovered by the Chambers County Movit Unit about 6:30 to 6:35 p.m. The incident, investigated by Justice of the Peace T. A. Meredith, occurred with divers and Harris County units assisting. Evans, not married, was taken to Ben Taub Hospital after an autopsy was ordered.
M Cecil Bobbitt, a Baytown accounting firm executive, led a public protest against General Telephone covering Baytown, La Porte, and Houston. He filed petitions with local and federal officials urging better service and opposing the franchise renewal slated for 1971 unless improvements are made. Bobbitt plans to add names to the petitions and forward them to authorities.
LA PORTE Sp Construction starts within 60 days on a 30 million air separation and steam plant in a 6 9 acre Bayport site near here. First phase costs over 7 million with capacity for 1300 tons per day of gaseous oxygen nitrogen and argon and over 200 tons daily of product. Plant will generate 600000 pounds per hour of steam for compressors and sell to local customers. Initial employment 50 to 75. Big Three Industrial Gas ranks among top U.S. chemical producers with operations in multiple states and NASA supply contracts. Oxirane Chemical and Celanese Corp activity also tied to Bayport area plants.
Johnny Carson states he is reconsidering returning to the Tonight Show after the AFTRA strike. He says money is not the main issue and there could be changes in personnel. His NBC contract is worth 15 000 dollars weekly. Attorneys will meet with network reps to discuss issues.

Kenneth N. Persenaire, 31, named Bay town parks and recreation director, starting May Mayors Lanham announced at a special city council meeting. Persenaire brings eight years in recreation, eight years with Austin Parks and Recreation, and a background in aquatic activities. He will oversee the new Community Center programs and the parks and recreation division with the center’s opening expected in late June.
Baytown Mayor Seaborn Crav ey proclaimed April 16 22 as Protection Week and urged residents to cooperate with a traffic safety program run by area independent insurance agents. The effort, in cooperation with the Pas town Insurance Exchange, forms part of a nationwide campaign by the National Association of Insurance Agents to stress traffic safety and protective measures for lives and property.
