The Robert E. Lee High School Class of 1951 committee will meet at 7:30 p.m. Friday at John and Ellen Flynt’s home to form sub committees for the June 12 reunion at Ramda Tower. Paul Parkinson will preside.

The school board approved a revised policy manual authorizing withholding diplomas from seniors who misbehave at baccalaureate or commencement events. Trustees Dignam and Greenwell dissented, arguing policy already covers such conduct, while Superintendent Clark supports extending authority to enforce discipline. The rule targets excessive horseplay at ceremonies noted in past years.
The University of Houston and the school district approve a one year internship program for 12 student interns in four elementary schools for 1971 72. Interns, supervised by a master teacher and a university supervisor, will replace 12 certified teachers and teach the full year. Eligible interns must finish degree requirements in elementary education within one year and may enroll for only three semester hours. Salaries for interns will be lower than certified teachers.
Baytown City Council sold 6.5 million in tax bonds at 4.7208 percent and 1.25 million in revenue bonds at 4.9450 percent. The sale, part of an 11.6 million capital-improvement package approved by voters, yields substantial interest savings and a reduced tax rate.

Baytown City Council will discuss Tom Gentry’s eligibility for mayor in Wednesday’s run off after considering briefs from his attorneys. Gentry, represented by Reid Strickland Gillette Ramsay, finished second in the April 6 election behind Mayor Glen Walker. If disqualified, Walker and Hullum advance. The meeting at 6:20 p.m. also includes a 3,500 acre annexation hearing in Chambers County with first reading to follow.
In Austin AP reports the Texas Senate would see the two year spending forecast and the appropriations bill. Lt Gov Ben Barnes sought the bill on desks before Friday debate and lawmakers might learn who gets the week to draft a tax measure funding the proposals.
Rudy Sikora was elected Crosby School District board president in a unanimous vote at a special meeting to canvass April 3 election returns. The bond propositions including 1.92 million for a new high school were all defeated. New officers were chosen in a split vote reflecting majority and minority factions.
Lake Houston remains low but Baytown industries face no rationing for now, officials say. SJRA assistant manager T L Doc Satterwhite notes drought stresses the 800 square mile watershed and warns that if dry weather continues, water use may slow by mid July. Industries such as Humble Oil and Refining Co and Atlantic Richfield rely on Lake Houston water, while irrigation uses may shift from Lake Livingston to spare Lake Houston water for industry.

Three men abducted a Staten Island bank president at 5 am and escorted him to the National Trust Co bank at Fort Hamilton in Brooklyn. They looted the safe three hours later and escaped with 250000 dollars, police reported.
