Prospective Lee College May graduates must be measured for caps and gowns no later than Monday April 25 in the business office. A $3.50 fee applies for cap and gown use. Dr John R Silber to speak at the Lyceum Assembly at 10 19 a.m. April 34 in the Lee College auditorium.
Partly cloudy and warm conditions with temps expected between 68 and 72 degrees. For Tuesday a high of 36 and a 6 a.m. low were recorded. At 8 a.m. Wednesday the Sun weather station read 70 degrees with 0.02 inch of rain. Thursday forecasts show Galveston tides low at 8 a.m. and high at 2:12 p.m. and 8:06 p.m.

Cedar Bayou Junior High teen reporter Becky Moore continues duties post tonsillectomy. Ted Kloesel recalled for three months reserve duty.
Building permits issued in Baytown rose sharply in the first quarter of 1966, totaling 2,034,074.25 dollars, more than double the 1965 pace. The breakdown shows dwellings, apartments, commercial, garages, and additions with notable projects including San Jacinto Methodist Hospital and multiple residence remodels.
Several candidates will speak at the East Harris County Democrats quarterly meeting at 3 p.m. Thursday at Holiday Inn. David Gibson, chairman of the Harris County Democratic Executive Committee, will address the group. Other speakers include Bob Eckhart, candidate for U S Representative, Suh District, and Chet Brooks, candidate for state senator District 7. Candidates in the District 23 race for state representative will speak: Glenn Vickery, Lindon Williams, Joe Allen, Rex Braun, Laura Cruz, Curtis Graves. The public is invited, says Ted Kroesel, East Harris County Democrats chairman.
Mike Moore nine, son of Mr and Mrs Dave Moore, suggests he cannot stay neutral about politics. His father, Baytown Chamber of Commerce manager, has no stance. Mike makes a sign reading Re elect George Washing un and parades with it, urging views in public.
Dr W G Barber Clear Creek School District superintendent resigns to become professor of administrative education at East Texas State University Commerce. He planned to leave despite a half million dollar lawsuit. Barber, coming to the district in 1964, cites years of personal reasons and future interests.
In Hattiesburg Mississippi US Commissioner Jack Pittman ordered 13 Ku Klux Klan members held for grand jury action over the January 20 Dahmer death. Judge Harold Cox may convene a grand jury in Jackson, Hattiesburg, Biloxi or Meridian to probe the killing, with a prior four hour hearing backing charges of civil rights violations against 14 men from Laurel and surrounding areas. The group faces allegations tied to a Klan dry run and the Dahmer shooting death near Hattiesburg, as FBI testimony linked statements to imperial wizard Sam Bowers Jr. and listed several named suspects. Bonds for those held ranged from 10,000 to 150,000.
Washington AP report outlines Sen John L McClellans investigations subcommittee finding that the comptroller of currency James Saxon granted charters too freely increasing risk and attracting people of questionable character. The panel urges stricter laws with criminal penalties amid ongoing 1965 hearings into federally insured bank failures.
In El Paso US District Judge Leo Brewster nears a ruling on Estes new trial bid as witnesses offer conflicting testimony. Billie Sol Estes and Hilbert Kreeger Jr. differ on details of the 1963 fraud case and related mortgage deals, while the judge contemplates rereading eight volumes of trial records.
The La Porte School Board declined to act on closing De Walt Elementary, an all Negro school, and set a special meeting for next Tuesday to consider the recommendation. The board adopted a freedom of choice plan pending final decision while community leaders urged keeping the school open. D. O. Laird became president, with Dr. J. Gordon Burdick as vice president and Lee Barnett as secretary, and Friday April 22 was declared a holiday.
Baytonian Edward Montie Montgomery and wife Gail Couch Montgomery with children Montie and Christy depart at 1 50 p m Wednesday to Kenya Africa for four years. He becomes administrator of a Baptist assembly near Limuru near Nairobi and will oversee evangelistic work and construction while the children attend a boarding school. Mrs Montgomery will host assembly meetings drawing missionaries from over 1000 miles away. Montgomery recently returned from Rhodesia and is a Texas A&M graduate who left Houston business to study at Southwest Baptist Seminary.
Chrysler Corp reports a throttle linkage issue affecting 383 cubic inch engines in Dodge Monaco and Polara models and some Fury and Chrysler cars with two barrel carbs. The firm denies the flaw makes cars unsafe. The report also notes the 260th Golden Gate Bridge death, Greece’s government resignations, Joel McCrae and Frances Dee divorce filing, and Elizabeth Taylor visiting a Rome clinic for minor surgery or a checkup.
City Manager Fritz Lanham announced the first phase of Baytown’s 152 million dollar sewer construction will begin within days. A 127,626 dollar contract for central district and North Main trunk sewers was awarded to Bay shore Constructors. Plans for a 212,000 dollar West Main sewage treatment plant addition and bids planned for May 19 were approved, with further units to begin as feasibility allows.
Dr. W T Jones Jr elected director and Dr. Morris W Wolfean named advisory director announced by President L Lee Brasfield. Jones, longtime Baytown resident and Air Force veteran, now an anesthesiologist at Gulf Coast Hospital, lives at 1605 Oate Shadows with Ina Mae Hamrick and two sons. Wolfean, born in Anaheim and raised in Goose Creek, is a dentist with degrees from UH and UT Dental School, residing at 1800 Olive with wife Marjorie and son Rick stationed at Fort Sam Houston.
Baytown City Council's Annexation Committee will speak at the Chamber of Commerce luncheon to detail annexation policies and recent land actions near U.S. Steel's West Chambers County holdings. The meeting aims to help citizens understand how recent two mile strip annexations along Interstate 10 Tri City Beach Road and surrounding areas affect Baytown and nearby towns Beach City and Mont Belvieu.
City councilmen elected in the April 5 race will be sworn in at a council meeting at the city hall Wednesday night. The roster includes Patrick Ball Albert Estiel and incumbent Andy Braswell. Election returns will be canvassed at 6 30 p m.
