Baytown Health Department conducted fourteen health inspections from Sunday to Thursday across senior homes schools and fast food chains. Highlights include Lake Japanese Restaurant with many dead roaches and chemical storage near food, McDonald s locations scoring highly while one store earned a 90 for bare-handling and chemical storage, and KFC Church's Popeyes and Panda s on Garth Road posting various scores with pest and hygiene issues noted. Elementary schools Lamar and Alamo earned 97 and 94 respectively for adhering to health rules and proper dishwashing practices with minor issues.

Marvin W. Dunnam, 59, of Beaumont died April 3, 2008 at MD Anderson Hospital in Houston. Born in Alvin, he lived in Beaumont most of his life. A Vietnam veteran, he served in the 101st Airborne and spent 25 years in the elevator trade before founding Kitchen Concepts. He was deeply active in Rotary, Anayat House, and Westgate Memorial Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife Connie, son Kelvin and Christy, several siblings, and numerous nieces and nephews.
