Baytown Adopts National Building Code with IBC Takeover
Baytown officials confirm Monday start of the International Building Code replacing four local codes. City inspector Kevin Bile notes IBC unifies standards, improves clarity, and eases out-of-town contractors familiarity, while officials say impact on commercial construction will be limited. The code combines building and plumbing under one primary book for residences, with separate volumes for commercial and industrial projects. The IBC aims for nationwide uniformity. Texas survey data show broad support among officials, though some want to see bugs fixed prior to adoption.
