President signs fetus protection bill amid debate
President Bush signed a law making it a federal crime to harm a fetus during an assault on the pregnant mother in a rare, high profile ceremony in the East Room. The measure targets unborn children at any development stage and drew praise from anti abortion groups and criticism from abortion rights supporters. The law does not apply to the Peterson case and hinges on federal crime contexts.
