The writer describes a brief hospital stay with shared wards and a talkative roommate. She praises the care, dislikes certain hospital routines, and looks forward to returning home and resuming normal life with friends, gifts, and rain that refreshes the yard.
Miss Mary Ellen Hall and Dale B Brahm were married at First Christian Church Moline at 3 pm May 14. Rev Charles H Willey officiated as family and friends attended from Moline Geneseo Calhoun and nearby towns. Bride wore linen Venise lace gown with chapel train. Reception followed in Fellowship Hall. The couple will reside in Geneseo.
Ascension Lutheran Church in Coon Rapids lists a summer schedule with Divine Worship at 9 am and events from June 1 to June 5. The calendar includes church council, second and first year instruction, Luther League, play practice, vacation Bible school for ages 3 to 14, and a Sunday worship with coffee and a film about Dr Paul Carlson and the Stanleyville Massacre.
Mrs Robert Kepple and Joyce and Linda and Jane Whalley of McGregor were Wednesday and Thursday guests of Mr and Mrs Gene Hilgenberg and family.
Mrs Jack Davis and others visited Mrs L E Stiles on Saturday afternoon. Merle Shaffer from Coon Rapids called on Thursday to see his mother Mrs V L Shaffer. Several families from Burlington Des Moines and other towns were guests of the Schicks and Cornishes over the weekend and Memorial Day.
Mrs E A Starling Mrs Ralph Starling Mrs Mary McLaughlin and Mrs Harley Dillavoy attended graduation exercises at Scranton High School Wednesday evening. They joined a reception for Lanny Lewis at Odd Fellows Hall. Lanny is the son of Mr and Mrs Gail Lewis.
At Friday evening commencement at Jefferson High School several families attended including Mr and Mrs Marion Vaughan with Sue and Teresa Buhr. Mr and Mrs Kinnick. Mr and Mrs Sheer. Barbara Cindy Lyle Kinnick. Robert Allen and Diane. all guests at a reception hosted by Howard Sheer in Bagley. Kelly Sheer and Dennis Steigerwalt also graduated that evening.
Mr and Mrs Dean Robertson Curtis Lori and Jason attended the Grand Junction eighth grade graduation exercises on Wednesday evening with Greg Young a graduate and guests at a reception hosted by the John Youngs. Mrs Robertson Curtis and Lori attended the Friday commencement with Pam a senior graduate and guests at another reception at the John Young home.
Mr and Mrs Sam Drake Rod and Becky and Mr and Mrs George Drake and family attended graduation exercises at Coon Rapids High School on Wednesday evening. The Drakes were guests at a reception in the Fred Long home honoring their son Junior, a graduate. Other guests included Mr and Mrs Earl Long and daughters, Mr and Mrs Bill Russ and Warren Long of Coon Rapids. The graduate is a cousin of the Drakes.
Gordon Christensen of Denver Colorado visited his parents Mr and Mrs Elmer Christensen in May. Friday night they attended graduation exercises at Northwest Missouri State College in Maryville where James Knauss, son-in-law, earned a bachelor’s in education and will teach math at Ayrshire High School this fall. Jim’s wife Cheryl Christensen and their daughter Kimberly live in Maryville for the summer while he works there.
Friday afternoon visitors included Mrs Tom Moylan and Mrs Velma Godwin joined by Mrs W E Lewis of Graettinger Mrs Mary McLaugh lin and Mrs Alvin Smith. Sunday afternoon visitors to Roger Liston home at Beaver were Mr and Mrs Clive Miller.
The Bayard High senior class honored Rafael Saborio at a Thursday going away party in Carol Morena's home. Guests included seniors and sponsors Miss Patricia Williams Ernest Gilson and Mrs Gilson. A wrist watch gift was presented to Rafael who has lived with Mr and Mrs Alfred Wessling while attending Bayard High.
Mr and Mrs John Peckumn hosted a Sunday afternoon gathering with guests including Mr and Mrs J M Anderson, Mr and Mrs Everett Wendt, Carol Ann and Sherry, Dennis Nissen, and Mr and Mrs James Webber of Audubon along with Mr and Mrs Este Peckumn. Honorees were Jerry Peckumn and Carol Ann Wendt for completing the eighth grade and Patti Peckumn celebrating her eleventh birthday.
First Communion observed for John Siedhoff at St Patrick's Church in the morning. Hosts Mr and Mrs Leonard Siedhoff entertained relatives including Mary Pat Kit and Jerry Siedhoff, with guests Mr and Mrs T J Tokheim Jim Siedhoff Fort Dodge Mrs Frank Siedhoff Bonnie Janet Mullen Fonda and Mr and Mrs John Tokheim and family Charter Oak.
Mrs Gerald Whitten and family joined Mr and Mrs Rudolf Vieltorf in Jamaica for a Sunday dinner. Timmy Vieltorf, grandson of the Vieltorfs, celebrated his second birthday with relatives in attendance.
The Bayard Woman's Club Arts and Crafts department met Friday in the club room with seven members present. Mrs Bob Christman and Mrs Keith Brown led a lesson on creating corsages from wool yarn. Hostesses Mrs Harold Straußer and Mrs Ray Schauf served refreshments.
Jim Wetzel and Jerry Peck Uma joined Friday supper and overnight stay with Bruce Hall and his parents Mr and Mrs Ronald Hall. Bruce Hall marked his fourteenth birthday with guests and informal celebration over Friday and Saturday.
Mrs Vic Nelson returned Monday from Wayne Michigan where she visited her son in law and daughter Mr and Mrs Frank Keith. She attended her grandson John Keiths wedding at Waltz Michigan with her daughter Mrs Oliver McPherson of Pipestone Minnesota.
Mr and Mrs Ward McClellan Jr and family were Sunday dinner guests of Mr and Mrs Virgil Shoesmith and Donnie at Dexter. Richard Shoesmith and family, Stuart and Mr and Mrs Darwin Barr and family of Booneville visited Don Kalbach at Dexter. Mr and Mrs Bob Burmeister with David and Linda hosted Karl Burmeister of Wahoo Nebraska and Mrs Adolf Burmeister at the Derby in Carroll Sunday.
Mr and Mrs Charlies Betts visited Story City Saturday as guests of their son Warren Betts and family. Their granddaughter Kathy Betts graduated with the class and they attended baccalaureate Sunday, commencement Tuesday, and the reception at the Betts home afterward.
Mr and Mrs Clifford Long hosted a cookout supper Sunday at their home to honor their daughter and sister Mrs Dwight Smith for her birthday. Guests included Mer lin Long and family Dwight Smith and family Ronald Smith and family of Coon Rapids and Donna Debbie and Denise Betts.
Mrs John Griffin hosted a Saturday coffee to honor Mrs Carrick on her birthday. Guests included Mesdames Lee Carrick, Charles Miles, Clyde Long, E E Bower, Frank Smith, Ray Lewis, R H Kinnick, J H Corbett, Bob McCool and Cheryl.
Mr and Mrs Alfred Wessling and Danny and Rafael Saborio attended graduation exercises at Kuemper High School in Carroll Sunday evening. J Carlos Borasino of Peru SA was a graduate who has lived with Mr and Mrs Harold Hicks in Rozelle for a year. The Wesslings and Borasino were guests at a Hicks home reception. His parents Mr and Mrs Thomas Borasino of Peru also attended.

Mr and Mrs Darrell Ha berlein Scranton and sons. Mary Jane Chase Coon Rapids. Mr and Mrs Earl Wolf Joe Christine Kathleen. and Mr and Mrs Gerald Wolf Kerry Karla and Jennifer. Dinner guests of Anita Jane Watkins included Mr and Mrs Donald Watkins Debbie and Jimmy Swan Judy Heald St Louis Mo and Larry Watkins Drake University students and Mr and Mrs E A Battles.
