Last week Tillman and Irwin Hocker crawled into a well four miles southwest of town to fetch rock. Fumes from a shot set the air deadly. Tillman fainted and, with Irwin, nearly ran out of air before neighbors and doctors rescued them. Both were saved, and the brothers vow caution before returning to the old well.
J W Grantham sold his confectionery ice cream and organ and piano business to William A Betts of Morgan County Missouri. Betts now runs the business. A hot day drew a large crowd of 1254 registered who found sales profitable. A sale at the Sikes feed yard after dinners attracted a big turnout with Harry Wilbur as auctioneer selling Will Pennock’s property. A list of winners appears on the next page.
The section enjoyed a heavy general rain Monday night from seven to three, perhaps an inch and a half, reviving vegetation. Grass corn ponds streams benefit. farmers plow, plant cane and cowpeas, second crop promising. gratitude urged for the rainfall.
On Saturday June 24 Masons and Eastern Star held a St John’s Day event with singing speaking and a drill followed by refreshments. The gathering honored St John the Baptist and St John the Evangelist and attracted many guests. Proceeds benefited the children's home.
