Misses Mabel Rummel Ruth Barnes and Laura Armstrong visited Oswego College at Oswego with Dr and Mrs Thos F Marshall. Mrs T J Morrow hosted a bridge gathering with warm refreshments. The prize went to Mrs Chas L Smith. Heavy rains fell in spots Monday night and mudded the fields near Neutral. A large St Marks Guild social raised a neat sum from cream and cake sales.

A fire near R. O. Thomas’s farm destroyed his southeast barn and spread to the cow, implement, and grain barns, wiping out thousands in losses. About 1200 bushels of wheat, 1000 bushels of corn, and 300 bushels of oats were affected with oats and corn lost. a horse died from burns while a helper was badly injured. Despite neighbor aid, keeping the house safe proved difficult. Thomas may have only partial insurance and vows to rebuild. The report credits Thomas’s family and neighbors for bravery and notes an August 28 reunion to follow.

The Miami Royalty Company reports a deep 205 foot ore strike at Hattenville, with drill samples yielding 50 to 70 percent ore. The find links to earlier Church lease and Hodgkins land lodes, boosting camp activity, investment interest, and potential profits as 2500 tons of surplus ore were sold last week and more is being shipped.
