A Baxter delegation saw Carl Morris defeat Jim Flynn Monday night. Mack Sullivan John Stauffer and Miss Jennie Hamilton of Columbus visited Baxter Sunday. Near Baxter bridge three miles northeast of the city, two Chambers brothers ages about twelve and ten drowned after being found in the river. Their uncle is Miss Gretta Chambers's nephew and funeral services were held the following day at Lowell cemetery.

Tragedy on Moving Train Near Joplin
Nolan Craigo aged nineteen was killed last Monday night near Joplin when on top of a Frisco passenger train under a viaduct on East Tenth street. He stood up and was struck by a beam. Death was almost instant. He was held on the car until Galena, where his body was removed. His companions fled.

Baxter Base Ball Boys Beaten By Jena Visitants
Last Sunday Baxter baseball team fell 4 to 10 to the Jena visitors in a rough off day for the local players. Mrs. W. T. Hope departs for Kansas City to visit her parents Mr. and Mrs. J. Violett. Bela Welch, returning from his farm, reports 75 acres of wheat in fair condition.

The Inter State Reunion Association Elects Officers
The directors held their annual meeting last Thursday and elected officers for the year. John M. Cooper is President, H. H. Gregg J. J. Fridley F. D. W. Arnold as vice presidents, Chas. L. Smith as Secretary, J. J. Fribley as Treasurer, Chas. S. Huffman as Colonel Commanding, H. R. Hub as Quartermaster. The reunion runs August 31 to September 5 with plans for invited speakers and anticipated large attendance due to a campaign year and expected grain yield.

Auto Kills Horse Near Lyon Township
An automobile from Bartlesville Oklahoma en route to Joplin on Monday struck and killed a horse owned by W D Teel of Lyon township. Teel’s son was riding the horse and tried to move it to safety but the car hit it as it backed into the road. The driver, owner of car 299, will face no chance to pay for the horse. Meanwhile the Girlanoma pugilist whipped his man and the car occupants continued toward Joplin.

Surprise Party for Mrs Mullen on 75th Birthday
Mrs Frank Perkins and Mrs Harry Brown hosted a Saturday afternoon party for their mother Mrs A W Mullen to mark her seventy-fifth birthday. Guests included friends, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren who brought many beautiful and useful gifts. The afternoon featured fancy work and conversation followed by refreshments. Tragedy Near Galena Paper Reports Suicide Shot by Carbolic Acid
Dillard Easley a 24 year old resident of Galena died after taking carbolic acid at his home early Monday. He was found dead soon afterward. He was a brother of Mrs. Charlie Davis of this city. The article notes Children’s Day exercises were held Sunday at area churches with appropriate services.
