Eleven car loads of Angora goats pass through town

On Friday evening eleven car loads of Angora goats moved through the city en route from a point near Quanah Texas to Kansas City. The goats averaged about 158 per car, describing a sizable shipment titled as butters in the report.

A D C Harvey Dead In Baxter Springs

A D C Harvey longtime Baxter Springs resident and former city engineer and mayor died at his Murray street home Tuesday morning after a long illness. Born in Scotland in 1835, he came to the United States as a child, lived in Ohio and Indiana, and moved to Baxter Springs in 1883 where he ran a furniture business before retiring to hand over to his son A L Harvey. He leaves a wife and three children A L, W L Harvey of Baxter Springs and Mrs Ella Jackson of Cabool plus three brothers. Funeral services will be held at his home today with interment in Baxter cemetery. city officials will attend in a body.

Polster Bros. Build New Department Store in Baxter Springs

A historic family business transforms into a modern department store in Baxter Springs. Polster Bros. plan a large 12 by 85 foot main room with distinct men and women sections, a hardware and sewing machine lineup, millinery, hosiery, candy, perfumes, and a soda fountain later. The move follows a 1909 fire that destroyed earlier premises, but the brothers persisted and expect to open by Booster day, claiming the store will be the finest in the county.

Young Texan Geo Hope Arrested After Missing Items

A teen from Texas named Geo Hope worked for Geo Schmidt on a farm northwest of town. After Mr and Mrs Schmidt left him at the place the boy vanished with a watch knife clothing and other goods. He was found in Columbus, arrested, and jailed awaiting further proceedings. The judge warned that future workers must bring many references.

Distillery Planned Near Galena in Jasper County Mo

Jasper county plans a new distillery just east of Galena across the state line. Built by Joplin people, it will have a large capacity. A contract for a deep well and building surveys are completed, bringing another source of drink close to Kansans.

M E Church Children’s Day and Sunday Services

The M E Church announces Children’s Day Sunday services at 11 a.m. A splendid program will be rendered and the Sunday School meets at 9:45. Miss Minnie Pike of Fish Training School Kansas City will visit and speak Sunday evening. No collection. The M E Sunday school picnic is set for Reunion Friday June 16.

Lawn Social at St Mark's Church Hosted by Coopers

The ladies of St Mark's Episcopal church host a lawn social at the Cooper home on East Sheridan street this Thursday evening. Attendees are invited to enjoy a pleasant evening and especially good ice cream. Cora looks well despite recent poor weather in the region.
