Survey of Fauna Arouses Interest in Maine Wildlife Census
William T. Donnell of the Maine State Planning Board discusses a proposed $25,000 federal wildlife survey to census Maine fish and game. The plan would use relief workers as wildlife technicians and gather data on food, shelter, migrations, and nesting to inform conservation and avoid heavy hunting restrictions. The project cites western states’ use of similar censuses as models and aims to produce reliable population data for policy.
