West Bath Grange Hosts Varied Monday Program
West Bath Grange met at Trusants Crossing hall after a week’s recess for Labor Day with a large crowd. The lecturer Mrs. Julia Field organized an entertaining program including singing, readings, a war effort discussion led by William Small Jr. and Alfred Neal, a humorous “Liar’s Contest” won by Billy Small, a treeology quiz, vocal solos, and readings. Committees for the annual Grange Fair were announced, with plans for Booster Night and a follow up program next Monday.

Morse High girls to receive complete physical check up
Morse High School will conduct its first full physical check up for the girls before entering the physical education program. Athletic director Duncan H. Farrell announced during a noon assembly. Physicians Dr Virginia Clay Hamilton and Dr Purington of Eastern Maine General Hospital Bangor will lead the exams. Out of town girls will be checked Wednesday and Thursday during the day, while local students report at seven o clock on those evenings.

Bath housewives canned nine thousand fourteen quart cans of fruit and vegetables at Morse High School Summer project. One thousand four hundred seventy seven quart cans were set aside for school lunches and seven thousand five hundred thirty seven quart cans were for home use. Third War Bond drive starts in Bath with house to house canvass
Bath campaign kicks off with door to door visits as workers begin the Third War Loan drive. Bath Boy Wounded in Recent Fighting
Kenneth L. Drake fireman first class USN, wounded in action, is hospitalized in the Mediterranean area. He has 12 wounds below the waist, remains bedridden but improving. Drake, 18, Morse high school freshman at enlistment, born July 20 1924, enlisted 1942, gained local fame as an usher at the Bath Opera House. He has two brothers in the Navy and another who plans Army service. Edward St Martin of Bath Iron Works enjoys a two week vacation at home.

A barn and several outbuildings owned by Herbert E. Babb in North Bath were destroyed by a Tuesday afternoon fire. Firefighters from Bath battled the flames, which spread despite a service-truck booster line and efforts to protect the nearby house.
