Election Costs Rise for City Ward Officials

State law requires the Board of Registration to meet in public session for 12 days before elections. The chair earns 7 dollars daily and two members 6 each, totaling 156 dollars for 12 days. With ward officials’ expenses and board costs, the full figure reaches 596 dollars. In 1950 a near 3500 vote city election would have cost under 18 cents per vote, a rate lower than today due to pay raises since then.
