Amateur Ed Abbott of Martindale Auburn edged pro Jim Browning of Norway with a 72 final round to finish 203, one stroke ahead in the Bath Country Club event. Brotherhood Seeks Arbitration on 18 Cent Pay Rise
The Independent Brotherhood of Shipyard Workers at Bath Iron Works proposes a three member arbitration panel to settle the dispute over an 18 cent hourly raise for production workers. The panel would include Bath residents from both union and non union sides and a U S labor secretary appointee. A Friday 4 p m deadline to accept arbitration is set with a mass meeting planned at City Hall Thursday night to discuss the issue further.

In Bath and Sagadahoc County the Republicans swept into office as in most of the state. Voters rejected a $150 veterans bonus and bonds to fund it, while approving liquor store sales and off premises malt beverages. Turnout was modest with 2870 in the city and higher statewide.
