Voters Back All Questions On Bridge District Plan
Voters endorsed the plan to create a bridge district linking Deer Isle including Stonington and Deer Isle to the mainland at Sedgwick with bonds totaling 5 million dollars, issued 1 million annually for five years. The measure also sought to change residency rules to curb welfare claims and limit local influence by seasonal residents. The statewide referendum turnout was about 9.7 percent, near a record low. Police investigated a Pendleton Shipyard incident involving a trip from Augusta intended for Popham for a day’s outing, with a Bath companion late arriving.
