Better Radio Programs For New England Audiences
WEEI plans for the coming season to add paid talent and continue WEAF connections from New York. The Boston Symphony Orchestra’s Vannini Ensemble and the 18th Century Candlelight Orchestra led by Rafael Martino are among featured groups, with a 15 musician symphony dance orchestra planned for October. Boston Orchestral Players under Joseph Boetje will revive old favorites and light operas with noted artists like Helen Barr and Marjorie Posselt. Local jazz dance is led by Dok Eisenbourg’s Sinfonions and Ed Andrews, while tabloid opera from WHEAT Grand Opera will be broadcast. The schedule includes World Series, Big Four college football, Davis Cup tennis, and political caution on prize fights. Punkinville radio drama, hybrid burlesque and vaudeville, has niche appeal but remains limited. Halloween through Easter specials, with a focus on simple, rapid sound-driven programs.
