Bowdoinham Notes from 1887 Local Life and School Change
In Bowdoinham 1887 residents greet George K. Tyler returning to Boston, and the village school opens with Miss Margaret Wison as partial High School assistant and Miss Cheney aiding 50 primary pupils. J. J. Cornish replaces J. A. Cone in the high school, and Blue Rideout’s leg is treated by Dr. Crocker of Augusta. The editor laments a missing pickaxe, reports clams at Indian Point, a 150 ton potash discharge, and a broken arm for Charlie Chapman during wrestling. James Reed expects over $1000 from sweet corn. Carrie Kendall travels to Selina Alabama. Captain Getchell returns from sea. The town wakes early, milked nine cows before daybreak, and artists Mrs. Maggie Millay and Miss Ella Adams sketch local scenery for Arizona.
