Bath Men in Fear as Steamship Marina Faces Coastal Storm

Friends of two Bath men and one Phippsburg man feared for the Marina during a coastal storm. The vessel hove to and was delayed returning to Boston, with 5 passengers aboard and no reported damage. Chief engineer Sherman Morse and assistant Irwin Daley were aboard. Talbot from Bath served as an overship, while Duley was home on vacation.

Men arraigned on liquor charges in Portland

Harold McLean of Southport James Battras and George Feinberg of Boothbay Harbor were brought to Portland by federal officers. They waived reading and pleaded not guilty to single sale of intoxicating liquors and are held on $300 bail each for the September term of the U S District Court opening Sept 16. Famous Wanderer Whaler Foundered Off Cuttyhunk in Gale

The famous old whaling bark Wanderer, leaving New Bedford on a final cruise, struck Middle Ground Shoal near Cuttyhunk during a northerly gale. The crew abandoned in two boats. seven men in one landed on Cuttyhunk, others missing. Coast Guard and tug efforts were hampered by strong undertow and blocked bridge openings. The storm was described as the worst in years.
