Larrabee Named Head of Maine Labor Bureau
State Representative Howard C. Larrabee of Bath has been named to head a new research and statistical division of the Maine Labor and Industry Department. He will take over Sept. 1 and move his family to Augusta. The bureau will provide wage and employment data for Maine and assist industry siting and state agencies. Larrabee, 35, is a Bath Iron Works auditor and former Brunswick Naval Air Station accountant, with prior private sector and city council service.

Men Rescued After Boat Capsizes on Kennebec River
Douglas Skillin 20 John Chaffee 23 and George Renaud all of Bath were rescued from the Kennebec River near North End after an outboard boat operated by Renaud capsized. John M Howe of Washington Street towed the 16 foot craft to city landing, The men had traveled from Brunswick down the Androscoggin River and were two miles from city landing.

Newell's Astral placed seventh with 28 hours 52 minutes 13 seconds corrected. Edmund S. Kelley Jr.'s 40 foot Owens cutter from Duxbury, Mass., won for the second straight year with 24 hours 13 minutes 7 seconds.

Masonic Temple Receives Extensive Refresh and Open House
An extensive redecorating and improvement project at Masonic Temple near Washington Street is nearing completion with an open house planned Thursday evening for members, families, and friends. Local contractor Justus H. Miller supervised the work, assisted by a committee led by Edwin H. P. Lowell. The upgrades include repapered front hall, new tiling, renovated parlor, fresh paint, new Wilton rug, and new leather seating planned. Blue and white tile linoleum covered pool, billiard, and card rooms, plus rebuilt storage and office spaces, modernized bathrooms, and reopened old fireplaces. Banquet hall, main lodge room, and upper halls feature lighter walls and renewed woodwork. Refreshments will be served at the open house.

About 125 Lions, wives and guests gathered for the annual field day and clambake at Elmer B. Williams home at Foster's Point. Activities included yacht racing on New Meadows waters, surf board riding by Lawrence Small and his father, and speedboat thrills. Lunch featured box lunches, lobsters, and coffee with Sea Scouts Bath assisting. Homer Johnson chaired the event with committee members John Taylor, Leon Fortin, Robert Brownell, Mr. Williams, and Mr. Small.
