E Lauren Stiles a Bath restaurant owner has been elected acting Scoutmaster of Troop 52 BSA replacing Rupert Irvine who resigned due to business duties. Stiles arrived from Brownville Junction last June bought the B Square Coffee Shop and will guide an indoor fall hiking program until his state commission arrives.

Retired Winnegance sea captain William F. Totman was rushed to Memorial Hospital after an abdominal injury from a Wednesday afternoon crash near the Phippsburg town farm. He underwent emergency surgery Thursday morning after his car left the highway while returning from a trip to the lower end of Phippsburg.
Dr David L Wilson of Central Congregational church has purchased the Marston house at 918 Washington Street corner of Oak from Nellie C Marston estate. The purchase was arranged by Roger D Skillings real estate. The Wilsons plan to move from the parsonage at 898 Middle Street about Jan 1. Wilson recently resigned as pastor of Central church effective the last Sunday in January 1940 after 26 years in the post.

The Lighthouse Service issues a notice to mariners that Sugarloaf Buoy 2B in the Kennebec River, Maine, will be moved around October 25 to a position 20 feet, 200 yards, at a bearing of 199 degrees from North Sugarloaf, on the right tangent.
Mrs John A Morse has returned a van after visiting friends in New York City and surrounding area, restoring transportation and reuniting with family.
The Y M C A has published yearly statistics detailing its work in Bath. Highlights include 865 on membership rolls, 3,000 average weekly attendance, 12,450 seen public athletic contests, 91 Intermediate Basketball League participants, 60 groups served, and 29 athletic teams in last year’s program.
The Missionary Society of Corliss Street church held an all day meeting in the vestry focusing on White Cross work. Devotions opened with a hymn and scripture from First Peter four. Reports, poems, and talks on Christian Citizenship were given, with hostesses and guests listed and plans announced for the November meeting.
Sagadahoc Pomona held a special meeting at Merriconeag Grange Harpswell to confer the fifth degree on 15 candidates. Hartley Stewart state lecturer will attend next Pomona session Oct 25 with Bodwell Grange at Small Point. Mrs Eleanor Ripley Topsham lecturer led a program with readings and sketches as 100 members attended.
The Morse high school junior class presented John D. Gaudette of Morse with a Sunshine basket at his home 46 Western Avenue after his fractured leg from the Morse Madison game on Sept 23. The presentation was by committee members Pauline Nickerson Eunice Perkins Robert Fortier and Kenneth Vennett.
About 100 Morse High School girls hiked Wednesday under supervision of Miss Alma I Kirkpatrick and Miss Amy A Irish as part of the physical education program. The hike went from the school to Stone House Farm via High street and back via Oak Grove avenue and Lincoln street.
At a Genesta Chapter OFS meeting in the Masonic temple on Friday evening an invitation was read for the worthy matron Mrs. George W. Larrabee to serve as guest Electa at Lakeside Chapter in Sabattus.
Rev Neal D Rousefield of the Maine Seacoast Mission spoke on the growth from its first boat started by Alexander MacDonald in 1906 to the current Sunbeam nearing completion. The mission now runs two ordained ministers, two lay workers, two Red Cross workers, a teacher and 40 workers, with the Sunbeam to sail 8000 miles yearly. Parish supper planning included committee members and hostesses, with supper at 6 30 and a white elephant sale scheduled for Oct 27.
Lieut Com William L Landers U S N assistant superintending constructor for the Navy Department at Bath Iron Works was toasted at a farewell dinner by naval officers and firm officials as he leaves to report to the New York Navy Yard next weekend. President William S Newell of Bath Iron Works acted as toastmaster and presented Landers a framed picture of the destroyer Sims launched last April. Landers, Harvard 1921 and Annapolis 1925, recently rose from lieutenant to lieutenant-commander. George B Connard and Thatcher B Pinkham organized the event.
Albert H. Thompson of Bath Iron Works was installed Noble Grand of Lincoln Lodge I O O F Monday evening at Odd Fellows hall during the annual officer installation. Harley J. Colby acted as installing officer with John E. Moore Ralph P. Mank and Henry G. Shaw taking office as Vice Grand Secretary and Treasurer. Refreshments and a social hour followed.
Judge William H. Fisher presiding over the Sagadahoc Superior Court term was the guest of a Sagadahoc Bar Association dinner at Hotel Sedgwick. Sixteen attendees including Dr. E Motley Puller and Edmund A. Rothwell praised his impartial handling of complex cases.

Approximately 150 guests attended the annual Girl Scout tea and exhibit Thursday at the State Military and Naval Children's Home. Sponsored by the local Council, visitors toured the Home with guide from the Scouts and helpers from Leaders Association. Exhibits included handiwork nature displays farm projects scrapbooks and camp pictures.
Miss Flora C Bacon hosted Central church Ladies' Aid at the parish house Friday afternoon. They finalized plans for an evening baked bean supper and worked on quilts for the Needle Work Guild. Dr Paul Bagdikian returned from New York after attending chiropractors lectures and a Worker's Fair.
An Apple a Day program centered on a unity poster will be shown at the annual meeting on October 1 at Topsham Grange Hall. Guests included Mrs. Addie Seavey of Georgetown Point Lighthouse, Mrs. Florence Morse of Phippsburg, and Mrs. Carolyn Day of Bath. 21 attended the dinner with Mrs. Clara Oliver and Mrs. Irene Young.
