After a week of closure local trains run again with partial service from Bath to Lewiston. Cars Cary 102 and 159 operate toward the southern end of the system as crews clear rails with shovels and picks. Supt Fuller is praised for steady effort in restoring the local network.
Miss Louise Haggett of 15 Bath Street was knocked down when a frightened horse bolted onto the sidewalk in front of the Fisher house on Washington Street. The sleigh toppled. she was transported to L. Hf. Curtis's home. Dr. H F Morin treated her. no fractures, but injuries were serious.
The Milk Producers Association of Saga dahoc County will meet at City Hall on Monday morning February 4 at 10 o'clock. Officials expect strong attendance as important questions will be discussed.
The Sasanoa tribe of Red Men raised officers Tuesday led by Great District Deputy Fred W. Hall with a staff including Great Senior Sagamore Whitlam and Great Prophet Carl Goddard. Chiefs elevated to stamps include Sachem A J Gallant, Senior Sagamore U KE Burk, Junior Sagamore A J Denham, and others such as Woodbury Potter, William Whar vey, L T Thompson, R P Higgins, and multiple Sannaps, Warriors, Braves, and Guards.
The Helion Club held its opening reception Friday week at its Oak Street residence. Active since October 1 1917, remodeling delayed the event. Attendees included Mr and Mrs George B Drake Mr and Mrs A O Weber Miss Lillian Weber Mr and Mrs George R Copeland and other guests. Out of town visitors included Misses Marjorie Lee and Bertha Hardy. Mr Starbird led a lively orchestra, with songs dancing and storytelling. Ten year old Miss Lillian Weber gave two perfect solo performances aided by the pianist.
Holy Name Society of St Mary’s Church installed new officers led by Rev N J Horan with Edmund Arsenault as president Joseph McCormick as vice president and John P Hayes as secretary and treasurer The retiring officers were Henry Biggins George Dalton and Francis McDonald The group plans a minstrel show before rent begins and notes monthly Masses for Holy Name and Knights of Columbus at 9 00 a m at Washington Park meanwhile 16 cellars are dug for new houses at the Delatore Co development in Portland and foundations are being finished for two more with carpenters at work expected to fill the area with homes by midsummer
Miss Hill of Bath oversees Sagadahoc County orphans as Jack Brown's family seeks safer care. Red Cross in Bowdoinham hosts a 45-chair dinner and 17 at a meeting while Amy Purinton and others aid soldiers and the poor amid harsh winter.
Friday night Morse defeated Westbrook Seminary in a tightly contested game at the YMCA gym. Early Westbrook lead faded as Morse rallied with Cass and Harris scoring and the teams trading baskets, leading 32 to 21 for Morse with eight minutes left in regulation.
Modern Woodmen Bath Camp in Bath, featuring 177 members, installed officers Wednesday night led by Deputy Consul Charles C. Toothaker with installing marshal Donald McCullum. New officers include Consul Fred A. Bowie, Past Consul Fulbridge R. Wright, Advisor Joseph ee, Clerk Clifton W. Tedford, Banker William H. White, Escort Arthur E. Stewart, Watchman Roland H. Prawn, Sentry Adelbert A Blair, and three year Manager Fred H. Haining. Readings, speeches, piano numbers by Edward Garcelon followed. Refreshments served.
The week of March 2 to 9 will see a large event with all space in Mechanics Building and Horticultural Hall sold four months earlier. Organizers report the sale to be more successful this year, even amid wartime conditions.
Lincoln Lodge No 10 I O C F and Queen Esther Rebekah Lodge held a joint installation Tuesday night attended by many members. District Deputy Presidents Annette Robinson and Leonard Munsey led the ceremonies with Marshals Lois McKiever and John F Conant assisting. Grand Master Harold J Toward from Waterville attended as a guest.
Miss Dorothy Jewett’s kindergarten celebrated Master Stanley Hatch turning five with ice cream, cake, and games as he hosted guests. A surprise party for Miss Sarah Coombs marked her departure for Panama with music and a knitting bag gift. Mrs. Maurice J. Duncklee learned her husband reached Camp Travis Texas as she prepared for new Red Triangle Y M C A duties. The Diamond Spring Ice Co fills the Bath Beef Co ice house.
With only a small coal supply, the Hockomock ferry will run a drastically reduced daily schedule. Initial cuts dropped 214 round trips to 16, then to 2 per day, with Sunday to seven likely. The move aims for at least 25 percent coal savings for the winter.
The Times reports Congressman Wallace JH White Jr announces the annual allotment of garden and flower seeds for the Second Congressional District is now available.
