Century Old Willow Removed By Workmen
The century old willow on the Baxter lot at Washington and Pearl streets, believed to be Maine’s largest tree, was felled as alderman John A. Lord witnessed the razing. The trunk fell northeast, causing temporary trolley delays while workers cleared debris. The tree, said to sprout from a discarded twig, had aged to a point where safety demanded its removal.
