Bath Votes Favorably On All Five Referendum Questions
Bath approved all five statewide referendum questions in a low turnout election with 533 votes cast. Support varied from a two to one margin for a Passagassawaukeag river bridge to over four to one for a $10 million University of Maine housing bond. Ward 4 and 5 backed the housing measure by about 10 to 1, West Bath led county support, and Bowdoin opposed the trend. A last-minute polling-place hiccup occurred in Ward 2 due to renovations at the BIW recreation hall. The City Council will certify results in a special 5 p.m. meeting.

Bath GOP Endorses Thebeau For Registration Board Chair
The Bath Republican City Committee endorsed Democrat Harry W. Thebeau for chairman of the Bath Board of Registration. The move ends an 11 week Council deadlock, with Thebeau’s elevation creating a Democratic majority on the board for the first time since early 1900s era. Thebeau, 72, would succeed the late Ada Marr Purington who led the post for 18 years. He is joined on the board by Republican Bernice Oliver, and his appointment would pave the way for a second Democratic member. The City Council must formalize the selection after the Democratic City committee submits a name.
