Phippsburg Pupils Hit Record in Magazine Drive

The Phippsburg Consolidated School completed its second annual magazine drive with a total of 725.78, beating last year’s 698. Principal William Turcotte announced a net profit of over 250 from 33 percent of returns. Grade eight raised 159, grade seven 242.84, grade six 224.94, and grade five 99. The drive aimed for an average of six dollars per pupil.

First Baptist Sewing Circle Meets October 14

The Ladies Sewing Circle of the First Baptist church held an all day session in the vestry working on quilt squares aprons and fancy work. Luncheon was provided at noon by Mrs. Bernice Oliver and Mrs. Elsie Crosby. Fires ruin home of local couple in Pitch Pine Hill area

The home of Mr and Mrs Charles Holbrook in the Pitch Pine Hill area was destroyed by fire on Friday night. Community groups report ongoing activities including Grange meetings, PTA rummage sales, library additions, school committee changes, and growing Glee Club attendance at the elementary school. The Hyde Park Recreation Commission urged the City Manager to complete the McMannfield track by spring. New 15-Cent Airmail Stamp Debuts At Bath Post Office

A new 15 cent international airmail stamp will be sold at the Bath post office on November 21 for Europe and the Middle East use. It is to be first offered in New York City on November 20 during the American Stamp Dealers Association show. Collectors may request first day cancellations by sending addressed envelopes with payment to Postmaster New York. Include a postal board enclosure and seal the flap. envelopes should be ordinary letter size and properly addressed, marked First-Day Covers 15-Cent Airmail Stamp. No uncanceled stamp requests.

Home Burns To Ground In Phippsburg

Mr and Mrs Charles Holbrook and their baby fled a burning home in the Winneganee section of Phippsburg early Saturday morning escaping with only a few possessions as the house burned to the ground Fire Chief Robert Beals said firemen saved a shed attached to the house but the structure was leveled by the blaze Faulty electrical wiring is believed to be the cause The house was owned by Alma Holbrook mother of Charles Holbrook.
