End of Maine side wheelers marks decline of large fleet

The sale of the steamer Han som B. Fuller to C. L. Dimon of New York leaves one sidewheel steamer on the Kennebec route to Portland Bath and Gardiner now gone. The Bangor, once a key vessel on the Penobscot, joins a shrinking fleet as newer steamers replace the old paddlers. The piece recalls the era of City of Bangor City of Rockland and other famous boats and notes the loss of the Portland Bay State group and the ultimate fading romance of the steamship era.
