Three Nazi Planes Bagged by Bath Man in One Day
Staff Sergeant Stewart H. Day Jr of Bath City was one of three American airmen who shot down five Luftwaffe fighters during the Eighth Air Force shuttle bombing of the Messerschmitt factory at Regensburg Germany. Day, 19, led the group with three planes, while his Flying Fortress Mary Pat piloted by Lt. Bue G. Weikert accounted for two more. The other crew members included 2nd Lt. Frederick D. Albert and T-Sgt. Darwin L. Mushrush who helped down the remaining German aircraft. The mission faced heavy anti aircraft fire and fighter opposition from Antwerp to the Italian Alps, though no crew members were harmed despite nose flak.

Two British Pilots Die In North Pownal Crash
Two British Navy pilots died when their planes collided during a routine training flight near North Pownal about 20 miles west of Brunswick. Ensign James H. Quillan announced the deaths and a board of inquiry was formed. Debris covered 200 acres as one plane burned and the other crashed near the Pownal State School.

Randall 8. Warren died at his Main Street home Friday after a brief illness. Born November 24, 1875 in Bowdoinham, he was son of Robert and Idia Adelia Waren. A lifelong resident, he belonged to the Sons of Union Veterans and once played in the Bowdoinham band. Funeral services were held at Gould Funeral Home Monday afternoon with Rev.
