The work widened the front to 60 feet and reached a mean depth of 27 feet at low tide along the wharf line. City Uses New Caterpillar Tractor For Street Work
The city tested a five ton tractor with snow plow and closed cab built by Caterpillar Tractor Co. It tows the road scraper, works on Centennal avenue and Whiskeay road, requires no horse labor, and will clear streets after heavy snows. Kennebec Bridge Nears Opening After Final Span Placed
The Kennebec bridge now shows the last span No 6 floated in on Sept 25, bringing total spans to seven and overall length to 3 090 ft with approaches. Bath and Woolwich segments add 425 and 695 ft respectively. The lift span rises to 125 ft at high tide and the bridge rests on eight caisson piers, some extending 125 ft below water. Trains are expected to run across this month and upper level traffic may begin late next month.
