Hunting Licenses Issued in Bath and Weekend Guests
One hundred forty resident hunting licenses have been issued at the Bath City Clerk's office since September 1. Additional licenses include four combo hunting and fishing, two fishing, six non-resident small game, one non-resident deer, and one junior non licenses issued to women. Deer season opens November 1 and ducks rabbits geese and partridge start October 1. Mr and Mrs Roger Pierce of Park Street were weekend guests of Mr and Mrs Allen Clark of Gardiner.

About 30 Bath residents from Ra mona Council No 27 D of P were expected in Portland for the banquet opening the 53rd Great Sun Council Fire of the Improved Order of Red Men and the 35th Great Sun Council Fire Degree of Pocahontas. Bath figures include Mrs Ernest R Avery great keeper of wax wampum and Mrs Howard E Blake the only Bath woman to reach Past Great Pocahontas. Avery, a former representative to the U S Great Council, was unable to attend the event.

About 475 dollars was raised at a Friday evening dance sponsored by Bath Memorial hospital nurses. Mayor Walter Rogers and Miss Bertha Bellerose led the grand march in an armory decorated in red white and blue. The Karney Kallander orchestra provided music and donors included the Gaudreau and local businesses.

Highway Crash at Dead Man's Curve Claims Two
Cars driven by Malcolm M White of South Gardiner and Andrew Raines of Bowdoinham crashed early Sunday at Dead Man's Curve in Bowdoinham. Mrs White suffered a cut above the eye and a knee laceration. Andrew Raines Jr. was bruised. State Patrolman John Dewinter ordered Raines into court. Ralph Dodge family drove to Bar Harbor and Cadillac Mountain.

Hugh King Dies as Auto Rolls Over on Washington Street
Hugh King 20 dies after a car at his home 424 Washington Street rolls down a bank and crushes him on the sidewalk. He apparently attempted to move the vehicle to lay a drop cord for night work when it gained momentum. The car struck a house at 421 Washington and narrowly missed another motorist. King was born October 2, 1921 in Cape Elizabeth and survived by his widow Sylvia Dawn, an infant daughter, two brothers, and his mother Mrs. George W. Geiler Jr. Funeral is set for Thursday at the Arthur F. Mayo residence.

Directors vote for recreation center proposal
The YMCA board met Tuesday night and approved a plan to add a recreation center under USC supervision if finances permit. USO grant funds will cover director salaries while extra costs require additional fundraising in the upcoming campaign. The gym will reopen Monday in fresh condition as part of a broader remodeling program with future plans for basement bowling alleys and a pool.
