Woolwich farmer grows big crop of fine cantaloupes
Allan L. Cates, who moved from Boston two years ago to the Herman Wright farm three miles east of the Woolwich ferry, reports a successful cantaloupe season. From 300 hills of seed he produced over 3,000 melons, averaging two pounds, picked mid August and sold at a roadside market. Despite drought there was strong demand from out of staters who ordered from Boston and New York. He plans to double acreage next season after a handsome profit.
