Steamer Cape May Burned for Metal at Philadelphia

The old excursion steamer Cape May built in Bath as Edge mont in 1881 and later State of Maine was burned to the waterline at Philadelphia on Thursday for scrap metal. Once 241 feet long with 600 staterooms, she carried thousands between Philadelphia and Cape May and served as a floating hospital during wartime. After years of idle rust, the deck fires consumed the vessel, leaving only a charred link rocking in the river.
