Bowser Rescued From Fire After Bath Shanty Blaze
Thomas H. Bowser 87 was rescued from a burning Maine Central wharf shanty by Howard Holcombe of Providence after the one room dwelling caught fire near Bath Grain Co. The alarm was raised by Joseph Winston and fire crews fought the blaze for nearly an hour with nearby oil operations posing a risk. Bowser, a former Bath Fire Dept driver, survived and credited the incident to quick actions by locals and the proximity of a tank car unloading.
