Interesting Talk On Federal-State Highway Plan
The Central Church Couples Club heard a report on the 1956 federal state highway program. F E A Stover of the Portland Cement Association outlined a 41 000 mile Interstate and Defense System with 90 percent federal funding, noting Maine’s 215 miles may cost about 250 million dollars. He cited benefits of concrete pavement, projected early routes from Brunswick to Bath, and the need for durable highways to support economy and defense. A film on the New York Thruway closed the session.
