Grandstand work at Kelley Field could begin this spring

A survey at Kelley athletic field examines a proposed new grandstand as part of the CWA project. Ex-city engineer James Dunton leads the survey for the local field reconstruction committee. The wooden or steel structure would sit at the north end 90 feet behind home plate, doubling as the backstop. The diamond layout is slightly adjusted, with home plate moved back so the outfield fence sits just under 300 feet from the batter. Completion by May 1 is possible given steady progress on the $16,000 project, though spring baseball timing remains uncertain.
