Steamboats on the Kennebec and the Sabine's Last Voyage
The Independent traces steamboating on the Kennebec river with the Sabine, later Sabino, still in steam as an excursion boat to Portland Harbor. Once named Tourist, the 45 foot vessel served Bath, Popham, Boothbay and Damariscotta routes before changes in ownership and a final retirement in 1927. Now Casco Bay Lines operates the Sabino as a popular Portland area excursion boat.
