Bath mayor mobilizes unemployed workers for plants
Nearly 100 unemployed men in Bath registered at Mayor Harold P. Small's office after his notice. About 75 named themselves within three days, with 25 more joining later. Lists including addresses were shared with Bata Iron Works Corp and Hyde Windlass Co to assist placement efforts, and with Post Office lot grading authorities. The mayor expects quick placement within weeks.

Margaret Pereau 79 Bath resident dies after illness
Margaret Kingsbury Pereau widow of Henry Victor Pereau of Bath died Monday afternoon at her daughter’s home in Woolwich after a weeklong illness. Born in Bath to Louis and Mary Kingsbury, she lived mostly in Bath, with a New Britain period. Residence was 32 Bath Street. A member of Winter Street Congregational Church, she had 14 children, eight surviving: sons David Bath Warren Benjamin Pereau New Britain Conn and daughters Jennie Ely Pittsburgh Alice Boehm New Britain Daisy Hodgdon New Britain Lula Harmon Brunswick Dorothy Molson Woolwich. Also survived by sisters Clara Butler Emma King Bath, brothers Charles Alexander Kingsbury Bath Bert Kingsbury Boston, 40 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren, plus nieces and nephews.

Death of Woolwich man David Blair at 76
The sudden death of David Willard Blair 76 at his River road Woolwich home shocked relatives and friends. Found in bed by his nephew George Ames he had been in good health with heart trouble suspected as the cause. Blair, lifelong Woolwich resident, was a lumber man and part time farmer, attended the Methodist church and left a wife about 15 years ago. He is survived by three daughters, two brothers, a sister, six grandchildren and a niece.

Hand Forged Knife Found Near North End Display
An ancient blade with a storied lineage was unearthed last summer a few hundred yards north of the dock. Improvements Begin On Postoffice Lot
Work started Monday on regrading the postoffice lot with about a dozen men hired for several weeks. Postmaster Henry W. Owen Jr. invited 30 unemployed workers, five responded and were employed. The concrete loading platform will extend east and the truck entrance move to the southeast corner. Coal storage shifts from the north lawn to a new coal bin in the basement civil service room.

Rairden Homestead at Arrowsic Destroyed by Fire
The Rairden homestead on the old road at Arrowsic owned by James Mc Farland and unused since 1923 burned last Wednesday evening. The two story house with a large ell and woodshed was destroyed, with insurance partly covering the loss. Firefighters from nearby farms kept the blaze from spreading and water supply aided efforts. The landmark home stood near the pond edge in the area.
