Kingsbury Re elected City Marshal After Substantial Debate

Percy W. Kingsbury was re elected city marshal by a nine seven secret ballot vote at a joint city council session. Kingsbury, back from three years Army service as military police and artilleryman, defeated Acting Marshal Moriarty who had opposed him. The vote followed discussion on oath timing and legality, with a plan to reconvene and reelect Kingsbury to clear the matter.

Talk on veteran and adult education at Cosmo Club

Earl Hutchinson of the State Department of Education spoke at the Cosmopolitan club in Augusta on promoting veteran and adult education in Maine. He urged expanding literacy, citizenship, crafts, health, and other classes, noting Maine ranks low in secondary education and education spending. A panel discussion followed with local educators and volunteers. The club plans a rummage sale November 17 to support activities, with numerous members helping and committees named for December.

Bath Young Lady Wins National Physical Therapy Scholarship

Donna Elaine Gorman of Bath is Maine’s first recipient under a 1,267,600 nationwide training program by the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis. The 21 year old, after Guilford high school, is in her fourth year at Bouve Boston School of Physical Education.

Deer Hunters Report Surplus Deer Sighted on High Street

On Sunday between noon and 3 pm vehicles along High street carried 44 deer. Most were on forward mudguards, some on bumpers, and a few towed trailers loaded with carcasses. One Bath motorist had deer strapped on cars between Portland and Brunswick.

Three Chinese Students Come Here for Study

Three Chinese youths sent by the Nationalist Government arrive in Bath to observe American shipbuilding at Bath Iron Works. They live at the YMCA and will study English and shipyard methods for months, possibly a year, before returning home to aid China’s planned expansion.

Poster Contest for Pupils in Bath Area

The Maine Savings Banks sponsor a statewide poster contest to promote thrift during the re conversion period with Bath Savings Institution hosting a local division for juniors from grades six to eight and seniors in high school. Prizes include 10 and 5 dollars locally and up to 100 in a statewide contest with winners displayed in the Bath bank lobby.

Still alarm responds to smoke at George Perry residence

Box 612 sounded Monday night after Engine 2 was called to the George Perry home on Willsow street when a furnace backfire filled the basement with smoke. Fear of a serious fire prompted the still alarm though no damage occurred. Guests of Mr and Mrs Ernest Cunning ham of Bowman street included their daughter Regina visiting the Cun ningham family of Union.

Veterans recall wartime service and Puritan Tea event

Veterans recount roles in World War II at an American Legion smoker. City Marshal Kingsbury described the capture of Camp Hamilton and Daschau horrors, while Lou Cooper shared Navy invasions at Leyte and Borneo and praised mine sweepers. The gathering also previews County Council meetings and a planned Veterans Service Center. The Cosmopolitan Garden club Puritan Tea featured elaborate table displays and festive arrangements by local members, with plants, radiators, and Thanksgiving themes.

Rotarians Titled Life Insurance Talk at Luncheon
