The Bath Iron Works plant received the Governor Louis J. Brann trophy at the seventh annual State Safety Conference in August. Safety engineer Walter J. Brennan lauded the workers for improving safety and reducing lost time accidents from a low state ranking to the best in Maine. President William S. Newell thanked the employees for their loyalty enabling the honor.

A 4000 savings in Workmen's compensation premiums, shown by American Mutual Liability Insurance, equals income from 230000 in government bonds and proof of the plant workers efforts. Treasurer L Eugene Thebeau accepted the award and praised the employees while Bath delegate Robert Haskell spoke on worker safety. The safety shield was placed at the gate for all to see as Thebeau credited the workers for the achievement.
