Woolwich Road work eyed by State Highway Commission
The State Highway Commission seriously considers continuing work on Woolwich Road from the bridge toll house over the Maine Central tracks to near the dike. A survey already done shows the route would join the dike road, remove the grade crossing, and straighten curves at the dike and overhead bridge. Bridge receipts remain steady and the bridge operates as a toll bridge until 45 percent of bonds are retired. The Maine Central Railroad is contributing about $91,000 yearly toward the bridge for 50 years.
