Central Reds win annual meet of grammar schools
The second annual inter grammar school track meet drew seventy five athletes from multiple schools with about 250 spectators. Central Grammar dominated the events led by high scorers Richard and Harold McElman and Cooke, while the Reds swept the potato race and relay. The running high jump produced a dramatic four foot nine inch tie among four teammates.

The lively program covered coffee brands, cow versus sheep for soil fertility, grange attendance benefits, milk room care, and speeches ending with a fine Bodwell dinner and an announced November 21 meeting at Merrymeeting Grange Bowdoinham.

Edward R. Gauvin, son of Martin Gauvin of Bath, joined the navy over two years ago and recently completed a three month world cruise aboard the destroyer Shaw. The voyage included stops in Cherbourg Paris Casablanca Gibraltar and Bermuda as a hurricane formed offshore. Gauvin returns on 15 days leave with eight months left in his three year enlistment and many friends may share his pride.
