Sagadahoc county Republicans announce a “Meet Your Candidates” rally on June 7 with Governor Horace A. Illdreth expected to attend. Justus H. Miller and Etta W. Thurlow oversee the event, inviting county party members and the public to observe the two minute limit for candidate responses.
At the closing session of the Maine State Conference of Meth- odist, Rev. C. B. Oliver of Bath will transfer to Oakland and Sidney. Rev. Oliver will be seen by Rev. J. M. Clare of Kittery. C. L. Kinney of the Beacon Street church moves to Skowhegan and Athens. Rev. A. H. Ives from Winthrop will join Beacon Street to replace Kinney. Both ministers leave after long service and many friendships in the city churches.
Several speakers opposed any tax increase in the annual budget. James Thorpe circulated a petition against the rise and suggested that holding the current tax rate could yield an overall 10 percent cut across all departments.
The notice lists attendees including Mrs David Henderson Mr and Mrs D Wallace MacDonald Murray Thompson and Mrs Guy Crosby at the Brunswick event alongside County Pomona.
Mrs. Roland Fillimore of Wesley Street was admitted May 22. Mrs. Frank Kittredge of Bedia Street was discharged May 22.
All are asked to wear service uniforms and report at Legion hall at 9 30 a m. The Legion will conduct exercises at the Legion lot then return to the clubhouse after the parade. Boy Scouts marching in the parade report to Morse High School by 10 30 Thursday morning in full uniform with troop and flags.
Mr and Mrs Carroll Deering ter and their son in law Mr and Mrs Frederick P Moffatt with a little son of Washington street passed Tuesday in Wilton.
The J. J. Newberry Co founded by J. J. Newberry grew from a Stroudsburg single store opened in 1911 to 488 stores in 45 states by 1923 1941. Brothers C T and E A Newberry joined in 1919 directing buying and construction. By 1941 J. J. Newberry Co planned a postwar expansion to bring more goods to shoppers despite material shortages.

Pearl Sea and Mrs. Arthur Max with Hart and son visited Mr. and Mrs. Walter I. Noyes. Louisa Howard invited Edward Cook to join a weekend visit. Leo and Conley Somerville spent the weekend at a cottage. Capt. Edgar Drake was a Sunday caller along with Mr. and Mrs. Henry White of Auburn. Lillian White and family are at their seaside cottage. H A Spinney and Earl Payson traveled to Portland. Mrs Thais Ross and daughter Ann spent the weekend locally.
Memorial Hospital lists admissions for Lee Mac Neil 41 Springer Sanley Lane High Mrs Minnie Cai 3 South Street and Mrs James Jardine 82 Drayton Road. A daughter born to Mr and Mrs Roland Fillimore 27 Wesley Street on Wednesday and a son to Mr and Mrs Jack Connor 711 Middle Street on Wednesday. A girl born to a family at 63 Bluff Road.
Chief Quartermaster Edward J. Wietecha announces that former closed ratings and ex naval reserve members may enlist in the regular Navy for two to six years. Men with prior service should visit Bath City Hall on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to check eligibility. Open ratings will close effective June 1, 1946.
A new X-ray shoe fitting machine with a magic eye has been installed at Shepard's Shoe Store. It lets customers see exactly how their shoes fit by showing the bones and alignment inside the shoe. No extra charge for the service. all are invited to try it for themselves and their children.
Judge Gardiner R. Deering presided as Harmon E. Eliason of Brunswick pleaded guilty through attorney Rubin to reckless driving and paid a $100 fine plus $4.70 costs. Three intoxication cases produced fines of $10 with $5.60 costs, $5 with $5.15 costs, and one case placed on file.
At Boston University nine co-eds received journalism degrees with one man, Daniel Rogson, among them. Ruth Conan of Bath and Barbara G. Weiss of Brighton were among the graduates, with two earning cum laude. The scene echoed a “ladies first” theme, underscoring women’s prominence in journalism.
Miss Véna Rosilia Butterfield and Robert George Bryant wed recently in background details obscured by OCR. The ceremony included a bouquet garter and reception with gifts, guest book, and refreshments managed by Mrs. Parker, Mrs. Clayton Smith, and Clarence. The bride, a graduate of Maxtison Teachers College, taught prior to marriage and plans to teach again in the fall after courses at Tocton University. Mr. Bryant recently discharged from four years in the Army Medical Corps. They will honeymoon then reside at the bride’s parents’ Lakewood home for the summer.
Sunday evening at the Armory the Down-Easters drew a capacity crowd for a lively program. Special attractions included Dick Autry and Montana Slim while Dynamite Gas kept the audience laughing. A milk drinking contest featured six contestants in baby bonnets with milk bottles. the first to finish won.
The bride, a Farri ngton Normal school graduate, and groom Sherman wed with a Breeze Hill Farm reception in North Edgecomb. They leave for a Lake Moose trip and plan to reside at 1715 Main Street Glastonbury Conn after June 5. Out of town guests included multiple Conn. residents and relatives.
Mrs Donald Page returns to Washington street home with her infant son Richard Marius Page from Maine General hospital Portland after a stay.
A Bath company has taken an option on a lease for the floor of an old Columbia factory building. The move signals expansion plans tied to zipper manufacturing and other related operations. Details remain limited in the fragmented OCR text.

A car carrying two young men left the highway at the New Meadows bridge Thuseday and landed upside down at the river edge. No injuries reported and state police investigate. The vehicle belonged to Amrose of West Bath.
Mrs. Percy Miller of Lincoln street enters Central Maine General hospital Lewiston as a patient under treatment. Her father Frank Sylvester stays with his son and wife Mr and Mrs John Sylvester of Chestnut street this week and will visit his other son Frank Sylvester Jr and Mrs Sylvester in Kittery next week.
An elderly veteran recounts service on battleships Tennessee Pennsylvania New Mexico Idaho during World War II and a Guam assignment. After return to California a tire blowout caused a near fatal crash, with occupants escaping through a window. The family later travels toward Bath and plans a Washington D C residence for four children with aid for housing.

Questions of hours Holidays sales etc will be worked out with the merchants by this committee. Charles I Madden Sr of Mechanic street was a recent guest of his son and wife Mr and Mrs Clifford Madden of South Ortland.

In a Monday session Judge Deering sentenced two intoxication defendants, ordering fines and court costs. A woman pled guilty to intoxication and received 15 days at the penitentary. Sawyer faced charges for operating a vehicle without a license after striking a child. the child was uninjured and released after hospital exam. Additional intoxication cases resulted in various fines and sentences, including a 30 day jail term for one speaker. Mrs Arthur Sewall hosted a women’s service club gathering at Stone Farm Monday noon.
