Plastics and Fiber Glass In Infancy, Says Expert
Daniel Zamore of American Fiberlast Corp told Bath Lions Club in Sedgwick that plastics and fiber glass are just beginning to flex their muscles. He described how two inch fibers and polyester resin with cobalt and silica create strong, durable composites. Fiberlast plans faster hull production, while General Motors tests fiberglass car bodies and fiber glass parts cut weight dramatically. The material resists rust and corrosion, needs little painting, and shows promise in lobster traps as well as electrical conduit boxes.
