Old Wiscasset court house may gain annex for records

Notes recount the 1824 Wiscasset court house as the oldest in continuous use in Maine, crowded for space. A proposed annex near the lot north of the court house would house registry offices with fireproof vaults, costing about 50000 dollars, possibly funded by future legislatures. The piece recalls historic visitors, ancient deeds, and a plan to reorganize first floor offices if built, amid recent gales and local wind damage. It also covers ship Westport’s sale for Massachusetts Bay excursions, a train-car sighting of Public Enemy No. 1 Harry Campbell, and local residents like gardener Albert L. Strout and pastor Dr. Francis W. O’Brien.
