Gloria Young Center Queen Crowned At Community Ball
Miss Gloria Young daughter of Mr and Mrs Lewis Young was elected Community Center queen after two days of balloting held Friday and Saturday. Coronation occurred Saturday at 10 PM with attendants Miss Safford Young and Snow and escorts. Joe Avery's Orchestra provided music as about 200 attendees observed the ceremony.

Alewives Start Spring Run at Nequasset Stream
Alewives have begun their annual spring run at Nequasset stream. A heavy Friday night showing preceded workmen finishing a wooden sluice that carries the town’s share of the fish to a loading shed for smoking or sale to a dog and cat food processor. Frank W. Watts of Bath won the fish rights this year. Cyrus H. Gilmore of Woolwich, a fish commission member, oversaw the sluiceway’s progress and has long knowledge of the Nequasset run. The stone sluiceway, built about 20 years ago by Gilmore, guides fish through basins to the dam’s top opening while some fish enter a pool below and are trapped for sale. Eggs fertilize along shores and hatch in two weeks as fish return home. Continued on Page Seven.

Bath Hobby and Craft Show Highlights Local Talent
Bath Garden club hosts a May 25 Hobby and Craft Show at Bath Iron Works Recreation Center to raise funds for beautification. From gem cutting by Stanley Perham to watercolors by Douglas Dearborn and Swedish weaving, the event showcases neighbors and artisans including Mrs. Harry Litchfield, Mrs. Ralph Stetson, and Archibald Main. The program runs 2 to 9 pm with hostesses, music, and demonstrations of etchings, dolls, rug making, and other crafts.

Bath schools face higher tuition from surrounding towns
The Woolwich school committee rules Bath will not cover tuition for out of town high school students unless they reside with parents in town. Bath collected about 42,000 from 10 outside communities in 1948-49, with figures shown for the 1949-50 school year, noting that tuition is based on prior year per pupil costs and spans two school years.

Five Bath Dogs Entered But Win None Of Prizes
The Sagadahoc Rod Gun and Skeet association closed a two day spring field trials with five Bath entrants failing to prize. Entries included John Greene and Bob Donnell in the puppy stakes, Dr Earl Wade in the derby, and Don King with Joe Ciomer in the amateur stakes. Winners listed for the derby include Granite State Fame and Rocchi among others, while open and amateur classes named several dogs and owners from Maine and neighboring states.

Bath Iron Works honored 137 employees with 20 years or more of service at an Old Timers Night in the recreation hall. Vice President J William Schulze praised their loyalty while Omar King and FBI agent J Joseph Tansey spoke on practical experience and federal cooperation. Navy veteran Mack Zimmerman recounted destroyer O Bannon’s Pacific service and the ship’s absence of major mechanical issues. A community singalong preceded talks, and John R Newell, newly elected BIW president, served as toastmaster.

More than 100 Colonial club members gathered at the Masonic Temple for the 20th annual banquet. Dr Francis A Winchenbach served as master of ceremonies as Francis Bruce announced awards. Winners included Rodney E Ross Jr and Frank Lawrence in pools and billiards, with golf trophies to Leon Buck and Stan Comeau. The Murads and Luckies teams received jackets and trophies for golf and bowling achievements. The running and second place teams were Fatimas Spuds and Marvels, with detailed honors for high averages and strings. Entertainment featured Fritz Holmgren leading a singing segment.
