East Wick fire destroys one house in East Brunswick

A woods fire of alarm proportions in East Brunswick Thursday afternoon destroyed a Tobey family home on the new State road between Cook's Corner and Thompson's Hill. The blaze crossed the highway and spread southeast, threatening John H. Perkins’s nearby property as sparks carried by high winds. Fire crews from Brunswick and volunteers battled the blaze, aided by a prior day grass and forest fire. Cause remains unknown with theories pointing to a cigarette stub or aftermath of a blueberry plot fire.
