A Fine Old Man John W Stewart of Shipping City Turns Ninety Six
John W Stewart a long time Shipping City resident was seen out Tuesday making his usual purchases. Born in Belmore Scotland in 182? he joined the U S Navy during the Civil War and served in the Union Army. He witnessed the Merrimac Monitor battle and was once a Libby prisoner. He survived three shipwrecks and later ran a rigging business here. He is a Kennebec Naval Veterans member and spends summers at his Edgett Street home. Mr and Mrs Harare Wilson and family of Mere Point visited Mrs Philip Kingsbury on Meadow Street over the weekend.
